YBK was officially registered on 26 Mac 1990 under the Trustees Incorporation Act 1952. It was officially launched on April 1990 by Tan Sri Dato' Haji Muhammad bin Hj. Muhd. Taib. The target groups for YBK are based on the Poverty Line Index which is reviewed from time to time.

YBK also takes into consideration a few other criterion in identifying the target group, such as living in dilapidated houses without proper basic amenities, poor state of health, poverty due to natural disasters, lack of education, skill and motivation.

YBK IN TRANSFORMATIONAL ERA VIA 'RESOLUTION 11757' (2011-2020)
A "Meetings Of Minds" was held in Port Dickson and attended by NGO leaders, academicians from Institutes of Higher Learning, departmental representatives, professionals, thinkers and friends of YBK. It was held to determine the way-forward for YBK towards an advanced nation in 2020. Through the meeting,the direction of YBK in line with a progressive nation was concluded through a resolution known as 'Resolution 11757'.

VISION
To transform YBK into a premier foundation, which is strong and effective in eradicating poverty.

MISSION
To assist in poverty eradication in Malaysia through human capital development.

OBJECTIVES
- To enhance the quality of life of target groups via integrated poverty eradication program.
- To develop resources, capacity, technology and network to execute the program.
- To develop YBK's expertise as reference centre for NGOs for poverty eradication.
- To strengthen networks with partners, government agencies and media to enhance YBK's effectiveness in solving poverty related issues
- To cooperate with various parties in conducting global poverty eradication program.
- To instill unity values in accordance with 1 Malaysia national development aspiration through YBK program.
- To plan, carry out and solidify the YBK Volunteers program.
